Albion Cricket Net Refurbishment - I's On!
Great news for the club, we have now secured the necessary funding to undertake a full refurbishment of the Albion cricket nets at Fergusson Park!
We have selected a supplier, discussions around the schedule are underway and we aim to have the project completed and the new nets ready for action before the start of the upcoming cricket season.
The refurbishment will see an additional 5m of concrete added to the run up area, astro-turf covering all the concrete with specialised turf for the run-up area and wickets. A cage net will surround 3 sides with soft netting for the 3 lanes on the inside. The nets will also be extended to nearly the full length of the wicket, which coupled with soft netting and full astro will significantly increase the safety for all those using them.
We must say a massive thanks to Rachel Darmody and those on the committee who have worked to secure the funding. It was a great team effort spearheaded by Rachel and to have secured such a significant amount of funding in such a short time is testament to their efforts and dedication.
We also cannot thank enough the four community funders, shown below, who have agreed to support this project and made it a reality. These organizations have been amazing and we are very grateful for the support they have shown our club and all its players. One item to note is that during the course of the refurbishment the nets will be unavailable for any use. We will let everyone know when the intended start date is and will aim to keep the construction timeframe as short as possible, however, weather and supply of materials will play a factor so a definitive timeline is not possible. We appreciate in advance your cooperation during the construction period in remaining off the nets area.
Here's looking forward to a long hot summer of cricket ahead with some nice new nets to train in and a whole lot fewer ripped up practice balls!
Go the Black Caps!
